The terrestrial turtle has existed for at least 225 million years, and is itself derived from marine turtles who are even older. Each turtle can also have exceptional longevity (up to 150 years for giant turtles in Galapagos and Seychelles!).

 

His way of operating is a slow and sustained rhythm. It thus teaches us patience, and the determination to continue progressing on our way despite obstacles, to have confidence and to persevere on the long run.

In Amerindian traditions, the turtle is considered as a peace bearer. It illustrates the ability to remain calm, even in chaotic times.

The shell of the turtle is a very powerful protection, it is a very effective self-defense mechanism. When the tortoise curls up in its carapace, it escapes the assaults of these predators.

In JAPAN, the turtle is considered an animal of good omen supposed to bring 10 000 years of happiness!

In Hindu and Chinese cultures, the tortoise is the carrier totem of Mother Earth and the balance of the world. This image is also found in the Amerindian folklore, which considers that the turtle carries the American continent on its back (the continent is called "the island of the Turtle")

 

The Turtle is very related to the natural elements. They are in connection with the Earth, in connection with the notions of stability and rooting. By its marine species it is also related to the energy of water and the fluid nature of emotions.
